Shoulder season. It might sound like a fashion trend but for travel hackers in the know it's the secret sauce of scoring cheap hotel rooms and discounted flights.

Popular summer destinations will drop their prices in the fall and spring in order to encourage visitors in the less touristic months. For vacationers, this means less crowds on holiday as well as better hotel rates.

From Hawaii to Montana to Florida, these are the domestic destinations that are seeing the biggest price drops in hotel rates for fall 2019, according to Priceline. The travel website looked at the most expensive destination for summer 2019 and then analyzed how much hotel rates have dropped in certain areas.

Here’s what they found.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – 41% off hotel rates

Shoulder season in Myrtle Beach is great for a cheap vacation as hotel rates drop over 40%.

Ocean City, Maryland – 35% off hotel rates

Ocean City, Maryland boasts cheap hotel rates this shoulder season for vacationers.

Orange Beach, Alabama – 34% off hotel rates
